The special possibilities and ways of storytelling in the field of the applied arts are presented in a large number of diverse examples.
Storytelling is a task assigned to literature, yet music as well as the visual and applied arts can also tell stories in their medium. In doing so, they use different methods of communication than literature – methods that are specifically assigned to their respective genre.
The exhibition deals with how narration is possible in the applied arts, which contents it takes up and which associations are made, how the content of the story or the scene relates to the function of the object. The possibilities of narration prove to be particularly diverse, especially in the field of jewellery, ceramics, glass and textiles. It can be painted and moulded, collaged and distorted, quoted and associated.
