Alvar and Aino Aalto were a creative power couple. In her documentary "Aalto," director Virpi Suutari portrays the life and work of the two design icons - and the deep love bond Alvar and Aino shared.

Finnish architect and furniture designer Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) is regarded as the "father of modernism." He created iconic, organically inspired buildings, including numerous summer residences in the Nordic countries, the Viipuri City Library, and the Church of the Holy Spirit in Wolfsburg, Germany. The Aalto Vase, with its asymmetrical outline and undulating shape, became a popular design piece. His worldwide fame was significantly enhanced by his wife Aino (1894-1949), who remained Alvar's productive partner up until her untimely death.
The film takes us on a journey to the most memorable Aalto buildings, from Finland to Russia, the USA and France, and shows encounters with the Rockefellers, Le Corbusier and László Moholy-Nagy.
