The Monobloc is the most sold piece of furniture of all times. One billion copies of the stackable plastic chair, which is usually white in Germany, are estimated to be in circulation worldwide.
Grimme Prize winner Hauke Wendler follows the multifsarious trails of the Monobloc, from Europe to North America and the slums of Brazil to the megacities of India and the Ugandan Savannah. He talks to people whose lives are affected by the plastic chair and repeatedly asks the bold question: What do you really need to be happy? A globalisation-critical object story between functionality and beauty, capitalism and participation, consumption and recycling.
